The necessary stuff

Firing range (cone): All clay and glazes must be suitable for cone 5-6 firing. Please be knowledgeable about the nature of your glazes – runniness, how many coats to apply, etc. If you are not 100% sure about the firing range of your clay we will not fire it. You will be responsible fordamage to the kiln due to wrong friing temperature for your clay. Know your clay.

Drop off:   You must fill out the intake form for drop off. We cannot fire items wihtout this form. If you are a new firing client you must contact the studio before dropping off your items, we will not fire items without speking to you first.

Billing: Bill will be provided at pick up. Cash or Venmo accepted. I cannot accept checks.

Rush order: Talk to me about how quickly we can fire your pieces for your specific situation. Sometimes people want to have pieces ready for markets and art shows and I’ll do my best to accommodate.

Turn around: Due to classes and studio memberships most pieces are fired within 10-15 days. We do our best to fire pieces in the order that they arrive. I can NOT guarantee firing times unless you have paid a rush fee and discussed scheduling.

All work not picked up within 30 days of firing will be will be considered abandoned and recycled and no refund given.

Breakage: Although we are as careful with work as possible and we maintain or kilns, accidents do happen and we will reimburse the cost of firing if we are responsible for the breakage (breaking during loading or unloading). Please secure your pieces during transport, especially delicate pieces with extra bits that may be broken.

Kiln hygiene: Items must be absolutely dry and wiped clean when they arrive. Glaze must be applied with a 1/4″ margin of un-glazed clay at the bottom foot of the pot. This includes the underside/center of a trimmed foot. Apply this to lids for success as well. I will not wipe pieces and will return it for wiping before firing.

We will inspect each piece to make sure it’s kiln ready. Very thick glazes may be rejected due to the damage caused to kiln shelves and other items in kilns. We will not accept pieces until they arrive kiln ready.

We will not fire combustible materials or anything other than clay. We will not fire solid or very thick work (thicker than ½ inch) or clay or glaze with an unknown firing range.

Glaze Cookies: All of your glaze work should be placed on a clay cookie. If you need clay cookies you can purchase from the studio for $2.00 each. You can make these by cutting flat rounds or squares out of your clay. I will fire these for free.
